Understanding 12-lead ECG:  You Can Learn to Read the Squiggles

Who should take this course?

The course is open to all healthcare professionals but is aimed primarily at practitioners other than physicians.  The goal is to provide students with confidence in their ability to identify common cardiac abnormalities through the interpretation of 12-Lead ECG results.

Many professionals in the health care field would like to read 12-lead ECG results well enough to identify basic and important cardiac abnormalities.  This capability can increase your value as part of the patient care team and broaden your capabilities in your field.

“Adding Value to Patient Care: Understanding and Interpreting 12-Lead ECG” is a 6.5-hour CE-approved course that will provide students with a useful and systematic strategy to identify basic cardiac abnormalities on 12-Lead ECGs.

The course consists of 2 parts:

  1. Foundational knowledge of heart functions, how they are depicted on an ECG, and

introduction of a systematic strategy for interpreting ECG results.  Topics include, among others, heart anatomy and physiology, depolarization wave, a brief history of ECGm review of 12-Lead essentials, and the adoption of an algorithm for systematic reading of 12-Lead ECG as applied to a variety of cardiac anomalies.

  1. A Practicum presents an opportunity for students to strengthen their understanding and ability to use a systematic method to interpret a series of 12-Lead ECG results that depict typical patterns of cardiac abnormalities.
